There are three main objectives in this game: Build a railroad system that safely guides trains and their payloads to the correct destination terminal, earn as much cash as you can, and last as long as you can. The game begins in an empty territory with a yellow train terminal on the west (left) side of the territory and an orange train terminal on the east. You must guide colored trains to their matching colored terminals (e.g., guide a yellow train to the yellow terminal, an orange train to the orange terminal, etc.). Do this by laying track from one terminal to the next. Any color train may come from any color terminal (including trains the same color as the terminal they come from). This may sound easy and although it is reasonably simple, it is frightingly difficult. There are many things you have to overcome like runaway trains, track damage, late arrivals, crashing trains, etc.
