Absolute Startup NOT the Best!
I was deciding between F-Group's 'Absolute Startup' and MetaProducts 'Startup Organizer'. These two seemed, without any doubt, the best two startup managers available anywhere for any price. I trialed them both and 'Absolute Startup' failed to start Lotus Organizer V6.1 every time regardless of the delays set, saying it couldn't find a DLL file! I tried many combinations but had to give up. Also 'Absolute Startup' was a bit clunky in the sequencing interface, not showing numerically the chosen order of programs to be started. I also didn't like the fact that the main screen showing programs did not display numerical startup order/sequence - I had to open the sequence interface to see that. This is something which should be obvious at a glance, not have to be searched for with clicks. Conversely, Metaproducts 'Startup Organizer' had none of these shortcomings and seems a completely polished and bug free program - it simply ran like clockwork time after time. This is what I want from ALL of my software (& OS!). Incidentally, 'Absolute Startup' showed me the main driver 'CCapp' for my Norton Antivirus as a "dangerous program" and happily offered to DELETE it for me! JEEZZZ!- this was not confidence inspiring. Annoyingly, other completely safe programs were flagged as "dangerous" too. The Absolute Startup online database is nothing which can't be achieved easily using Google. It is a shame, as 'F-Group' has such an impressive web-site I was expecting much more in use-ability and reliability - I truly wanted it to be the better program but it definitely wasn't. This is the benefit of taking some time with a trial period rather than buying on bells and whistles! Oh well, Metaproducts Startup Organizer wins the day for me. Thanks anyway F-Group. Cheers, Brian H.(Sydney,Australia).
